Finally got new headlight assembly mounted, had to replace the 7" diameter bucket with a 5.75" model, both were Buffalo units which are top quality (IMHO). LED was all of $30US and is every bit as bright as my "off-road" Halogen bulb was, if not brighter. Made a mount for the 7" that (thankfully) fits both.

Both buckets had to be modified for all the wiring that goes in there; they had a simple hole with a grommet that would only pass 2 or 3 wires. Fortunately, there are two slots where mounts pass thru, and it's only a matter of two cuts with a dremel between the slots to make a larger opening. (in addition to turn signal wires, I also have a pair of USB feeds coming out of bucket on the parking lamp circuit.) Squirt some self-etching high-temp primer inside to head off rust, add rubber edging to the cuts, and the new Buffalo with LED installed mounted up same as its predecessor.

Only regret is the plastic lens (would much prefer glass), but I guess that's the way all LED headlights are. Hard to imagine it would generate enough heat to justify the massive heatsink behind Cree LEDs, but so far so good.

Nice Mike, I took the easy way out and ordered a 5 3/4 led replacement for the stock lightning. American made Eagle Lights, and yes the lens is polycarbonate. It was about a 130$ and is way better than stock. The high beam is focused very tight, it comes to a point. Love it.
Just a bit of modification with the tab on the inside of the trim ring. Better look than a bulb
